The art and photo contest is being hosted by the Friends of the Jeff Davis County Library with entries to be displayed in the library’s new meeting space during the week of the celebration. The goal of this new event is to encourage local citizens and Davis Mountains Hummingbird Celebration participants to show their artistic talent. The contest provides an opportunity to learn about the unique beauty and habitat of hummingbirds while fundraising for the Friends of the Jeff Davis County Library.

Artistic entries may be in the forms of photography or fine art, including painting, sculpture, textiles, collages, jewelry and other media. Categories include adults and youth. Those under the age of 18 as of August 18, 2017 will be eligible for the youth category.

Awards include 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place in each category, one Best of Show, and one People’s Choice Award. Cash prizes up to $100 for 1st Place winners. A $200 Best of Show will be selected from the first place winners. Other prizes include binoculars, hummingbird feeders, and books.

There is no fee to enter. However, this event is a fundraiser for Friends of the Jeff Davis County Library. A donation to the Friends with contest submissions will be greatly appreciated. (Recommended gift: $5-$10 or more.) To be eligible to win a prize, a submission must depict in some fashion a North American hummingbird or hummingbirds.

Each entry must include an entry form and must be received by the library between noon on Friday, August 18, and 2 pm Saturday, August 19. All entries will be available for sale unless marked NFS (not for sale). All monies from the sale of entries go to FJDCL.

Entry forms and complete contest details are available online at the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce website: Printed entry forms will also be available at the library and the Chamber office.
