Month: May 2015
On Friday, May 15, starting at 11 a.m. there will be a team of bicyclists delivering free books to more than one hundred students at Dirks-Anderson Elementary in Fort Davis in the “Ride for Reading,”
This event was so popular last year that it has been set up to happen again just in time for the end of the school year. In 2014, the students were so overjoyed to select two free books per child that they applauded non-stop as the last bicyclist left. The message to the students is to stay physically active and to read every day, all summer long.
The Friends of the Jeff Davis County Library was able to obtain the books through their long-distance member, Lisa Feder Feitel of New York, who contacted Scholastic Publishers to make this donation possible. High school students, Park Rangers from the Fort, and some parents with homeschoolers are expected to pedal their way from Memorial Square to the school, so please watch for them and cheer them on! Everyone is invited to participate as bikers or spectators.
