National Library Week and Poetry Month celebrated

IMG_20150414_123944_292A unique combination of original poems accompanied by artwork, graphic design, and type faces was on display at the Jeff Davis County Library to commemorate both National Poetry Month and National Library Week.  This year the motto selected by the American Library Association is “Unlimited Possibilities at Your Library,” to emphasize the limitless importance of all public libraries. High school students from both Fort Davis and Marfa partnered with the Chinati Foundation’s Education program to produce some creative ways of expressing the visual arts and literature.  Using Carl Andre’s permanent installation at Chinati as a source of inspiration, the students of Mrs. Cory Cason have been exploring art for a special exhibit at the annual Community Day in the Marfa facility.

Thirteen works of art were selected for the five panels in the library.    Participants include students Becky Caswell, Makayla Chambers, Madison Corbin-Nelson, Kimber Cox, Lauren Epperson, Aimara Fierro,  Max Lannom, Mae McIvor, Emily Merrill, Audra Miller, Cameron Naegele, Oscar Nunez, Perla Nunez, Victoria Prince,  Daisy Renteria, and Alexie Sanchez.  Teachers Donel Lara and Cory Cason served as coordinators for the project and as sponsors.  The art will be on view at the library during regular hours, Mondays through Fridays from 10 am until 6 pm.
